Amendment Six

A Amendment six guarantees the rights of criminal defendants, including the right to a public trial without unnecessary delay, the right to a lawyer, the right to an impartial jury, and the right to know who your accusers are and the natures of the charges and evidence against you.

M Madison as in James Madison wrote amendment six.

E Ensures a person gets a FAIR trial.

N Notice of accusation. The amendment requires that the defendant be told what crime they are charged with. This is called a Notice of accusation.

D Decmber 15, 1791. That is when this amendment was ratified.

M Mentally stable defendendents can represent them selves in a trial but the court can stop the trial if the person is mentally unstable.

E Even if the defendant can’t afford a lawyer they get one.

N No matter what, this amendment apply to all states.

T The amendment was passed by Congress September 25th,  1789.

S Speedy trial means the defendant doesn’t have to be in jail a long time before their trial.
